13 Colonies
One group of British Colonies were the New England Colonies. The New England Colonies were the furthest north. In the New England Colonies, people could only grow enough food for their families. For money, people were blacksmiths, fishermen, shipbuilders, and carpenters. Additionally the New England Colonies had very little food.
In between the New England Colonies was the middle colonies. The Middle Colonies had many different groups of people living there. The Middle Colonies were most well known for growing a lot of food. The Middle Colonies grew so much wheat that they were became known as the bread basket of colonies.
The colonies furthest to the south were known as the Southern Colonies. The Southern Colonies had large farms known as plantations. The Southern Colonies could produce everything that they needed. The Southern Colonies however relied heavily on the labor of enslaved people. In the Southern Colonies, corn, indigo, tobacco, and rice were grown.
